South Carolina adds a big commitment to their 2022 football class with 4-star DB Keenan Nelson Jr. out of Philadelphia PA (St. Joseph's Prep). Nelson (6-1, 200) was recruited by Secondary Coach Torrian Gray at Corner, but can play all positions in the Secondary. Nelson chose the Gamecocks over offers from Penn State, Tennessee, Arizona State, Duke, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Georgia, Miami, Ole Miss, and Virginia Tech among others.

Nelson - a 2022 All-American Bowl roster invitee - officially visited USC in late June - he's had visits with Penn State and Temple already. This commitment is the delayed one to Head Coach Shane Beamer's "Welcome Home" tweet back on Sunday July 11th.

Nelson is the 16th commitment to the 2022 class: he is the top rated commit for 247sports.com's ratings, and tied for the top rated commit with OL Ryan Brubaker - another PA product - per Rivals.com's ratings. USC's 2022 class is now ranked 15th nationally and 5th in the SEC per 247sports.com, and 13th nationally and 4th in the SEC per Rivals.com

Looks like he'll develop into a pretty good DB. He's got good size and length at the position. From what I've seen from his film, he's best when defending underneath, almost like a linebacker with his pursuit and play recognition. His tape defending deeper passes seems more inconclusive though.
