The UConn Series
The Huskies lead the series 9-2, but the Gamecocks have claimed two of the last three meetings, including one earlier this season. Nine games in the series have featured the #1 team in the country – four times South Carolina, five times UConn. The two have met in the NCAA Tournament once before – March 26, 2018, in a 94-65 Husky victory.

After claiming their first win in the series in the 2019-20 season, South Carolina dropped an overtime heartbreaker in Storrs in 2020-21.

The two met in the title game of the 2021 Battle 4 Atlantis (Nov. 22) with the Gamecocks claiming a 73-57 victory in the Bahamas. Aliyah Boston posted her first double-double of the season with 22 points and 15 rebounds as South Carolina dominated the glass 42-25. UConn took a three-point lead into halftime, but the Gamecocks exploded offensively in the third and locked down defensively in the fourth, allowing the Huskies just three points in the final period. Zia Cooke and Destanni Henderson added 17 and 15 points, respectively.

Great game, Henderson was a player of Destiny tonight... when the Gamecocks needed a stop Boston or Henderson made a block or steal and when they needed a basket Handerson made it or set it up!

National Champions!! Dawn Staley turned up the pressure and coached a great game. No doubt more to come, the question is how many more to come...

She definitely has it rolling. Henderson will be tough to replace. Great season beginning to end, total domination in the championship game leaving nothing to doubt and no excuses by the other teams.

Recruiting should be able to keep rolling with her proving that the first one wasn't a fluke in addition to being Team USA's coach.

I think Dawn stepped down from the national team after winning in Tokyo. The new Team USA coach is Cheryl Reeve, who is a head coach for one of the WNBA teams.

Henderson will definitely be tough to replace. I am excited to see what a healthy Raven Johnson can do on the court though. We'll be just fine if she lives up to the billing of the #1 PG recruit in her class.
