2024 DE Jordan Ross gives Gamecocks high marks following his visit Saturday
SPORTSTALK / October 31, 20222024 DE Jordan Ross (6-5 212) of Vestavia Hills, AL camped at USC last summer where head coach Shane Beamer and defensive ends coach Sterling Lucas got the chance to watch him perform. They later offered Ross and Saturday had him on campus for an unofficial visit. Ross appears to be a prospect the Gamecocks are sold on, and they did a good job selling him on the program.
“It was a great visit,” Ross said. “The coaches introduced me. They gave me a tour. They showed me everything. I talked to Coach Beamer and all the other coaches. I met some of the players. It was an overall great visit. The staff treated me perfect. They gave me all the insides about South Carolina and how great it is. I met some of the recruits and they were telling me how good South Carolina was. It was a great place to be.”
Ross has the body type that can take on more weight without diminishing his speed and quickness. He said Lucas has a plan for that and could see him developing into a player similar to a current defensive end standout for the Gamecocks.
“He said he loved my speed and how I get around,” Ross said. “He loves my dog that I got in me. He was telling me about one of his players, #5 (Jordan Burch), the outside linebacker. I saw him, and he was huge. He said he can’t wait to put some wait on me and can’t wait to get me down there.”
Ross has also visited Tennessee, Auburn and Alabama for games this season. He said this USC visit puts the Gamecocks right up at the top with him.
“I’d have to say they would be in my top three. A hundred percent,” Ross said. “They are showing me the most love. They are trying to get me out there the most. I’d also have to say, and this is just random, Tennessee, South Carolina and Auburn.”
Clemson also is in play with Ross and he has set a visit with the Tigers for November 12th.
“I’m getting a whole bunch of interest. They are sending me mail every single day,” Ross said. “Their coaches are talking to me. I love their D-line because they Bryan Bresee and an Alabama commit in Peter Woods. That’s just showing me how good they are on their D-line. I’m waiting on the offer.”
Ross is planning to go to games at Georgia, Cincinnati and Ole Miss before the season is over. He was offered by Southern Cal last week and also has offers from Kansas, Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee.
So far this season, Ross estimates he has been in on about 20 tackles with 7 sacks.
