2025 DE Isaiah Gibson is looking forward to his first visit to the Gamecocks

SPORTSTALK / April 10, 2023

1681155425847.pngSouth Carolina defensive ends coach Sterling Lucas has made an early move for DE Isaiah Gibson (6-5 250) of Warner Robins, GA. Last week Lucas surprised Gibson by making him an offer, and the two set up a visit for the spring game this Saturday which will serve as Gibson’s first look at USC and the program.

“It really meant a lot to me because it was my first SEC offer, and knowing the SEC is one of the more competitive conferences in college football, it meant a lot to me,” Gibson said. “I’m looking forward to the culture down there, like the coaching. I want to know how they run stuff and how it would affect me if I went there. I plan on meeting the majority of the coaches when I go there so I’ll have like a feel for everything, so I won’t be brand new when I take more visits there.

Gibson said when he got the latest call from Lucas, he had no preconceived notion that the Gamecocks were ready to invite him into their program.

“We had a good conversation on the phone the other day,” Gibson said. “I really wasn’t expecting the offer this early, I was expecting it a little bit later. He said he likes my game, the way I move and the way I think when I play. He likes my overall game, the way I think during the game, the way I move and how big my body is getting. They like me for the edge, outside linebacker.”

Gibson announced his offer from USC on April 5th. The next day he picked up an offer from Florida, the day after visiting Gainesville. He is going to Florida State Tuesday, North Carolina April 21st and Oregon April 27th. He also has offers from Indiana, Oregon and UAB.

Last season Gibson totaled 67 tackles with 7.5 sacks.
