Duties changing on Carolina's baseball staff

By JOHN WHITTLE  247sports, | June 4, 2019

The staff will remain the same but some roles will be different for the South Carolina baseball staff next season. Head coach Mark Kingston, who just completed his second year with the program, announced the changes on Tuesday during his year-end press conference.

Director of Player Development Trip Couch will switch roles with full-time assistant coach Mike Current, which is a change that happened at the conclusion of the regular season. FREE ARTICLE (CLICK TO VIEW)

It was expected. The hitting of the team declined as the SEC schedule began, and never really improved as the season progressed. Hopefully the shuffle produces some good results....

Indeed.....this was the worst hitting Gamecock team I had ever seen.

OK, so we hit 0.236 as a team, which was atrocious.  But we did have power (75 HR in 56 games), yet didn't score but about 5.5 runs a game.  We allowed 6.1 RPG.

I did an analysis figuring what if we allowed half as many runs per game than what we actually did?  In other words, what if we had a pitching staff like we had under Tanner?

The non-conference results were not that surprising....we would have been 22-3 non-conference instead of 20-5, a mere 2-game improvement.

In the SEC though....instead of 8-22, we would have been 16-14, and overall would have had a 38-17 record.  That has "hosting a regional" written all over it.

It's the pitching.  It must get better!  Time will tell if it does (and therefore, if the team does).
