Fort Lauderdale (Florida) Dillard defensive tackle Aaron Thompson was announced by South Carolina as a signee at around 9:00 a.m. this morning.
The 6-foot-2, 260-pounder committed to Maryland on January 21, but visited Columbia the final weekend prior to signing day. A decommitment from the Terrapins took place on February 1.
“I just feel more comfortable in that area and with the coaching staff," Thompson told GamecockCentral.com. "They're pretty cool."
With Thompson's size and skill set, USC believes he's versatile enough to play multiple positions along the defensive front.
"They said I’ll be playing three-tech and five-tech, so I’ll be playing inside and outside," he said.
Thompson as a mid-three star prospect. He also carried offers from from Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Missouri, NC State, Tennessee, UNC, and others.
