3 star Offensive lineman Javion Cohen decommits from South Carolina’s 2020 recruiting class

April 16, 2019

The South Carolina Gamecocks football team lost a commit when Phenix City, Alabama offensive lineman Javion Cohen decommitted from the 2020 class on Monday night.

He had picked USC in late March. When he committed, he claimed offers from Alabama, Florida State and LSU.

Cohen is the No. 440 player in the country in the 247 Sports composite rankings, a three-star recruit. He’s the No. 37 offensive tackle and No. 21 player in Alabama.

Last season, he was on a 14-0 team that averaged 41.3 points per game. It’s the same school that produced star Clemson receiver Justyn Ross.

Who is in play for him, and is there a high likelihood that he signs with us later on?

No Gamecocks are out of it other schools Alabama and Arkansas

I don’t understand that, but I don’t understand any recruit from any school who makes a commitment, but keeps his recruiting open. I don’t think they understand the meaning of the word commitment.

DITTO!!!!!

Likewise! I have no problem with a recruit  stating he has a favorite and keeping his recruitment open. But to say "I commit" is like getting engaged and still wanting to date other people.

Mom is coming with him this weekend. He lives within 25 miles of Auburn who as of now offered a Scholarship.

Feathered, you obviously think he is gone, so do we know why he is bothering with another visit?  Does Mama prefer us?

I think Cohen truly likes our program, but I think his mom likes Auburn, and AU is very close to where they live, and they (he and his family) may in fact be Auburn Tigers fans. Can't really blame them any more than you can blame someone who grew up in Irmo or Clinton or Greenwood, and being Gamecock fans. But Cohen got an offer early from us, while he didn't get one early from AU. Then he got one, and felt he needed to re-open his recruitment back up.

I agree with Feathered that unless something happens with Auburn, and they remain strong with him, then he will be a AU Tiger and not a Gamecock. But he planned to visit us with his mom this weekend, so they will keep us as a close option, and things can always happen during the recruiting process, so we'll see. If he doesn't come, then I have great confidence that Wolford will replace him with another quality OL prospect....
