Javion Cohen
3 star OL Javion Cohen 6'5" 275lbs of Phenix City, AL got a double-dose of Palmetto State football Saturday when he visited USC for it’s junior day and then made his way east to Conway for a look-see at Coastal Carolina. He enjoyed both visits and he sees both as factors as his recruiting rolls on.
At USC, Cohen got some quality time with Gamecock offensive line coach Eric Wolford who, Cohen said, seems him as a potential Sunday afternoon kind of guy.
“Like he said before, he sees me as a top player, an NFL Draft choice in the next couple of years,” Cohen said. “All I have to do is get there and work for him.”
He also checked out the Gamecocks’ facilities, including the new football operations center and came away impressed.
“They were very beautiful,” he said. “As soon as I walked in (the new ops building), me and my mom, our jaws dropped. It was very good looking.”
Cohen said he also sat down with Will Muschamp. He feels he and the Gamecock’s head coach have developed a very tight relationship.
“Strong, strong,” he said. “Anytime I need to ask a question or have something to say, all I have to do is text him and he’s there. Makes me want to come back eve more. That school is a very prestigious school. Everyone there is very genuine, especially (strength) coach Dillman. He put the cherry on top, really. They are very high (on his list).”
New Coastal Carolina coach Jamie Chadwell is trying to raise the level of recruiting for the Chanticleers to meet their needs in the Sun Belt. The fact they got a visit from Cohen is a sign that effort is paying off.
“It was nice, very beautiful place,” Cohen said. “The coaches show you a lot of love, they show you what they are going to do for you. The whole BAM concept, that was really something that stuck out to me. Teaches you how to become a man.”
Cohen said he’s still weighing all of his options with other offers from Arkansas, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Virginia and Wake Forest.
“I’m open to everything really,” he said. “If I feel like Coastal Carolina is the better place than Arkansas or somewhere, I can go there. But that is still yet to be determined.”
This weekend he’ll make the short ride to Auburn for an unofficial visit. He also plans to see Arkansas. He might return to USC this spring but he knows for sure he’ll be back in Columbia in September for the Alabama game.
Clemson could also become a player with Cohen. The Tigers recruit his school heavily and they know him well.
“I’ve talked to coach Scott and coach Swinney plenty of times,” Cohen said. “They come out all the time and every time they come we speak. They definitely want to get me in for camp.” And he said he’s working on making that camp visit happen.
Cohen said he does not have a favorite and he won’t announce a commitment until the December signing day.
