USC added what is likely the final piece to its 2020 offensive line haul with a commitment Monday night from 3 star OL Vershon Lee 6'3" 290lbs of Woodbridge, VA. He picked the Gamecocks over Pitt, and also considered NC State, West Virginia and Wake Forest in his final short group.
Lee took an official visit to Pitt this past weekend. The weekend before he visited USC and got the chance for an extensive conversation with offensive line coach Eric Wolford.
“We were talking about football and how things go and how he needs me,” Lee said. ‘He was telling me about how vital it would be for me to come here. I feel wanted here. I could get real relaxed comfortable here.”
The Gamecocks see Lee as an interior offensive lineman, and hs coach believes he would excel as a guard or center.
“He definitely has the athleticism to play tackle, just doesn’t have the height,” said coach Darryl Overton. “He’s also been a point guard in basketball. Very athletic. He fell in love with being a lineman, blocking and being nasty. He takes a lot of pride in pancaking people. He’s got a lot of good skill sets. He’s very dedicated to his craft.”
Lee gives USC five offensive line commitments for the class, though Issiah Walker is still shopping around, and 13 commitments overall.
