4 ⭐️ LB Steele commits to USC

He looks like a really good one - sounds like he had a possible health issue that turned out benign - not the case of any broken bones or tendon injuries - that shut his HS season down last season, otherwise he may be higher rated or better known in the recruiting community. One thing to watch for however, if now that it turns out that he's healthy and cleared moving forward, if other programs will turn up the recruiting heat on him. So hopefully we are able to hang onto him to the end, but we'll see. Still a strong addition to the class.....

Don’t think he will back out of his commitment, assuming staff stays for 2021 season.  He said he picked us because we stuck with him during his injury while others cooled on him.

He is a little light, maybe because the health issue limited his time in the weight room. I expect that he had good wheels when he was 100%, which is why he was highly regarded. If he sticks and puts on some good weight before Fall 2021, he could get some early PT.

Having said that, Covid-19 might be a problem. If he has to sit out two years in a row, he will need a RS year just to knock the rust off.
True.  The weight could be due to fact he is a DB in HS but we are looking to move him to LB. I’d think we’d likely get him playing with same speed but around 230.  Reminds me of old FSU strategy when their D was great.  Get big safeties and change them into  super fast LBs.  Also slow LBs turn into fast DEs.

Aren't you a HS coach in Virginia? Apparently he didn't play last year due to some injury, had you seen him in any scrimmages? Or did he move there from NC then get injured?

Does anyone know what his injury was?

Steele is at 207lbs today and he has the frame to carry more weight.  The idea is for him to play at 225lbs and still be able to retain his speed and athleticism.

I do coach about 45 minutes from where he plays.  However, he is in the private school league and we don't cross paths.  Up in northern Va and DC area, the private school league is elite, so you know he has been coached well and played legit competition.  I am hoping with 20-25 lbs of muscle that he will keep that speed that would make him an elite LB.

Thanks for the info, thought I remembered that you coached in that region.

Anyone else in your area that our staff might be looking at?

There’s the DC area guys from Saint John’s and DeMatha that they’re going after.  Getting kids from those schools is big because they’ll always be high floor guys and less likely to bust.  From public schools there’s some talented guys from a rival high school to where Jaike Moore from.  I think Bama has offered like 2-3 guys on the team.  Problem is, that school is always loaded with talent but the guys rarely become college stars.  The Prince William schools have the elite talent but Fairfax and Loudoun usually have the better teams.

There’s a 2022 3 star RB at Tuscarora HS Bryce Dukes that I’d keep an eye on.  Think in an I system like Bobo it’d fit his skill set well.
