4-star CB Jaycee Horn details commitment to South Carolina
December 19, 2017
Four-star cornerback Jaycee Horn, the latest edition to the 2018 South Carolina recruiting class, will ink during the early signing period. even though he won’t graduate from Alpharetta (Ga.) High School until the spring.
“I didn’t really feel there was any need to wait, so I just went on and finished it,” he said.
On Monday night, Horn announced that he was committed to sign with the Gamecocks on Dec. 20, instead of waiting until the first Wednesday in February.
“Really, the relationships I had with [defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson] and coach [Will] Muschamp, the opportunity I have to come in and compete and play early, and me being comfortable on campus, getting a relationship with some of the players there,” he said.
Their track record with “putting DBs in the NFL, first-round guys,” also led Horn (6-0, 180) to jumping on board with Muschamp and Robinson.
“I don’t think anyone does it better in the country than them, so I think they can take me to the top of my game, help me complete my goal [of] becoming a first-round draft pick and making it to the league,” Horn said.
Junior cornerback Keisean Nixon played a role in Horn’s recruitment to South Carolina.
“When I’ve been down there, he really talked to me a lot, just taught me the ropes of how things go down there, we talk almost every day,” Horn said. “JaMarcus King, all those guys, they’re fun.
“It’s different. They try to show you the ropes. At other schools, some guys are different, so I just like the vibe down there. I feel like I fit in well.”
And, of course, there’s the opportunity for playing time. Starting safeties Chris Lammons and D.J. Smith and starting cornerback JaMarcus King are all seniors.
“I’ve already guaranteed I’m going to work hard and try my hardest to start my freshman year. I’m going to bring attitude to the defense,” Horn said. “The guys that’s coming in with that [2018] class are going to bring that also.
“I can just guarantee that I’ll work my hardest and do everything to win.”
Horn, a former Tennessee commitment, will play in the Under Armour All-America Game.
