4 star DL Kelsey Griffin (6-2 290) of Hoschton, GA Wednesday announced a commitment to USC. Griffin is considered to be one of the top defensive line prospects in the country. He announced a commitment to Georgia last month only to see the Bulldogs not accept his pledge at the time reportedly because the defensive staff did not feel he was a good fit for their 3-4 alignment. Griffin made an unofficial visit to USC last Saturday for the Georgia game. Mills Creek coach Shannon Jarvis announced the commitment for Griffin in a press release:

'Kelsey has just informed me and the coaches at the University of South Carolina that he is committing to play football there next fall," Jarvis said in the statement. "Kelsey attended the South Carolina / Georgia game on an unofficial visit this weekend and returned home to finalize his decision with his parents this week.

"Kelsey had offers from schools across the entire country before narrowing his choices to South Carolina and UGA this summer. He is very excited about the opportunity to play for the University of South Carolina and be apart of their continued success."

Last season Griffin had 98 tackles with 24 tackles for loss. He is the 21st commitment for the Gamecocks' 2013 class.

Coach says USC "a great fit" for Griffin

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good in recruiting. In USC's case, the Gamecock's good season thus far helped them get in the running for DL Kelsey Griffin of Hoschton, GA, and a little bit of luck helped them gain his commitment Wednesday morning. USC was always in the running for Griffin, but according to his coach, the proximity to Athens was a big reason he wanted to go to Georgia and announced a commitment to the Bulldogs last month. Georgia, of course, did not take the pledge reportedly because they did not feel he was a fit for their 3-4 defense. Mill Creek coach Shannon Jarvis said Wednesday there's no such issue for Griffin at USC. "This is a great fit for Kelsey," Jarvis said. "He has tremendous respect for (DL) Coach Lawing. His attributes are perfect for what USC does. His skills project so well within their scheme." This season Griffin has 42 tackles with 2 sacks and 2 quarterback hurries. His coach took him to USC for the spring game, and Griffin and his father returned to Columbia for the Georgia game last Saturday. "Kelsey has liked South Carolina from the beginning," the coach said. "This is not a case where he didn't like it from the beginning. He feels very blessed. His recruiting is officially closed. He did not want to go back thru the process." Griffin is USC's 21st commitment and the first interior defensive lineman. link: http://www.goupstate...9966/-1/PSPORTS
