4-star DT Rick Sandidge recaps weekend in South Carolina

Return to South Carolina
Joined by his parents and younger sister, 4-star prospect Rick Sandidge made his much-anticipated return to South Carolina on Friday night before heading back home late Saturday afternoon.
The country’s No. 11 defensive tackle had a “good time” catching up with the coaches and getting to know the players.
What were the highlights?
“Talking to the coaches,” Sandidge said. “Coach Muschamp telling me over and over, ‘We need you.’ Going over the stuff that I would be doing, if I was to go there, and just really getting a connection with the players and coaches.”
The Gamecocks coaches would utilize him in a number of different positions along their defensive line.
“They were just talking about how I can really play any position on the line, besides nose guard,” Sandidge said. “They were talking about how I can go in coverage, because they said I have the ability to do stuff like that.”
Sophomore “Buck” D.J. Wonnum played a significant role in hosting Sandidge this past weekend.

Mom’s take
Keshia Sandidge makes no bones about it. She’d love to see her son play football at South Carolina. That’s her school. The Gamecocks are her team.
But it’s Rick’s decision.
“I think my opinion is a little bit biased,” Keshia said. “We try to keep it to where he can make the decision on his own.
“I just really think South Carolina rolled out the red carpet for us.”
She went into detail about the two-day visit.
“I think they’ve kind of put in the time or invested the time to get to know us, so now it’s all about showing us how he fits into the program,” Keshia said. “I think this last visit was more so along those lines, trying to show us he fits and how this can be beneficial for him, what goals he wants to meet as he plays football and as he grows up to be a man, how they can help him meet those goals, just like any other program can do.”
