4-star DT Travon Walker returns

November 13, 2017

2019 DE drops top 4, visits

Four-star defensive tackle Travon Walker, a 2019 prospect from Upson-Lee High School in Thomaston, Ga., listed a top 4 last week that included South Carolina, Alabama, Clemson and Georgia.

On Saturday, Muschamp, outside linebacker/defensive end coach Mike Peterson and the rest of the Gamecock staff hosted Walker for his second visit to Columbia. His first visit was earlier this summer during camp season.

“It was a pretty good visit. It was just cold. Other than that, it was a good visit,” Walker said.

Along with Muschamp and Peterson, he caught up with defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson.

“Coach Peterson was telling me that I would fit in perfectly and that they need another one of those guys,” Walker said. “He said another one of those guys, talking like — he was referring to D.J. Wonnum. He was saying I’d fit in perfect and I could play the scheme well. And he told me to just keep working.”

It was a similar message from Muschamp.

“He was saying that I would fit in good there, and it wasn’t any pressure for me to keep in contact with them,” Walker said. “They’re still going to recruit me very hard.”

The Gamecocks have plenty of interest in Walker, who’s ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 5 defensive tackle in the country.

“Out of seven days a week, they contact me at least four,” Walker said, “If it was either calling or texting. Then I look at them for another reason, their depth chart and education-wise.”

Clemson, Auburn, Georgia, Alabama and LSU also have hosted him for games.

“Things could change between my top 4 schools, because a lot of schools are still pushing for me,” Walker said, “So things could change, but right now, it’s those four.”

LSU, Michigan and Florida are still in contact, so is Auburn, though the Tigers haven’t offered yet.
