Two more from Morgan County
As M.J. Webb continues to gain experience during his first spring practice at South Carolina, two of his former teammates from Morgan County (Ga.) High School are starting to gain traction with the Gamecocks coaches.
Rated as a 4-star outside linebacker, Quin Williams is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 16 outside linebacker in the class of 2018. He’s listed at 6-foot-1.5 and 205 pounds.
Though he profiles as an edge player at the next level, Williams is actually 6-3 and he’s closer to 230. If he ends up at South Carolina, it’s expected that he’ll play with his hand on the ground.

Next month, Williams will take his first visit to South Carolina. He’ll be joined by 2019 OLB/S Jordan Huff (6-1, 180), who Morgan County coach Bill Malone also thinks has a bright future.
South Carolina has already offered Williams. Along with N.C. State, Malone said South Carolina is expressing the most interest.
“I think that’s the hottest fire right there,” Malone said of the Gamecocks interest. “South Carolina, with M.J. being over there, that’s kind of gotten us in the door really good with those guys.
“We’ve known (defensive line coach) Lance (Thompson) for four years now and they’re real high on Quin. In fact, they called me a couple or three weeks ago and said, ‘What do we have to do? Let’s see if we can get this kid here.’ I’d have to say they’re the hottest team on him right now.”
Williams’ offer sheet includes Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
“I know (South Carolina’s) starting to rebuild and develop a great program, and I know they’re looking for a lot of guys from Georgia,” Williams said.
Muschamp has certainly made a good impression.
“He brings a lot of energy. He tries to put forth the best effort and tries to bring out the best out of his guys,” Williams said.
Plus, Webb has shared what it’s like playing for South Carolina.
“It’s a different type of level over there,” Williams said. “He said the workouts are intense and everything is faster. Class is harder. He said you barely get free time.”
South Carolina adds kicker
Brandon Chiazza has taken care of business in the classroom and on the football field. Because he’s done well on both fronts, he’s been invited to join the South Carolina football team this fall as a preferred walk-on.
The 2017 kicker from Malvern (Pa.) Prep School announced over the weekend that he would be heading to Columbia, S.C.
“I have family 20 minutes away from USC so have been going to the games for years. I was also accepted to USC with an academic scholarship,” Chiazza said. “I was impressed by the intensity of the first practice and the culture the coaching staff has created.
“I’m excited about competing in August. The entire football staff is great and I’m excited to be a Gamecock.”
South Carolina has an open competition for the vacant place-kicking job, left behind by Elliott Fry.
“I will be working hard training this spring and summer and plan to compete for the job in August,” Chiazza said.
South Carolina landed Chiazza over Duke and Rutgers, both of which had preferred walk-on offers out to him, too.
According to his kohlskicking.com profile, Chiazza carries a 3.9 GPA and a 26 on the ACT.
