4-star OL Dylan Wonnum feels no pressure from older brother & other recruiting notes of the day

May 16, 2017

No pressure, bro

D.J. Wonnum would be more than happy to have his younger brother join him on the South Carolina football team. However, the sophomore “Buck” isn’t pushing Dylan Wonnum toward a commitment.

Dylan, a 4-star offensive lineman from Tucker (Ga.) High School, has offers from across the SEC and Big 10, including Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State, to go along with South Carolina.

“He really doesn’t talk to me a lot, because he knows what I’m dealing with. … He really doesn’t talk to me about it,” Dylan said. “He might ease something in, but not really.”

In June, before his senior season at Stephenson High School (Stone Mountain, Ga.), D.J. committed to Iowa State. He switched his pledge to Indiana in January before flipping to South Carolina a few days later during his official visit.

With that in mind, D.J. just reminds Dylan that it’s OK to “take your time.”

“He makes little jokes and stuff like that,” Dylan said, when asked about D.J.’s recruiting pitch. “But it’s still going to be my choice, either way.”

South Carolina has hosted him for several visits over the last year, a couple of which were earlier this spring. Dylan was on campus for the Garnet & Black game before returning a few weeks later for the SpursUp recruiting event.

Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State have also had him on campus in 2017. For now, no other visits have been scheduled. A decision could come by the end of the summer, but he’s open to the idea of waiting until after the season.

Crystal Ball Eval

Welcome to SpursUp Surveillance’s first edition of the Crystal Ball Eval. When a South Carolina target scores a 247Sports Crystal Ball selection, we’ll share a quick thought.

Two picks were issued on Monday.

Enjoy.

Alabama: 2018 3-star CB Jaycee Horn — Smart choice.

North Carolina: 2018 3-star DT Alim McNeill — Is Virginia Tech losing traction?

South Carolina: 2018 4-star QB Dakereon Joyner — What took so long?

Monday movement

South Carolina was first to offer 2019 jumbo athlete Curtis Fann Jr., a 6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect from Twin City, Ga.

Four-star linebacker Dax Hollifield (Shelby, N.C.) added an offer from former Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele.

Junior college defensive end Dorian Gerald, who’s originally from West Florence (S.C.) High School picked up an SEC East offer on Monday night.
