4-star OT confident he could stop top South Carolina pass-rusher

Four-star offensive line recruit Dylan Wonnum is confident that he can stop one of the top pass rushers on the South Carolina roster.
D.J. Wonnum, a sophomore who’s expected to start at the “Buck” position in 2017, had 1.5 sacks during his first season for the Gamecocks.
Obviously, there’s some familiarity. They’re brothers.
“I’ve been seeing him all my life, so I know his moves and everything like that,” Dylan said. “I’ve got it down pat.”
Dylan, who’s ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 7 offensive tackle in the country, is also listed as the No. 64 overall prospect in the country. He’s a rising senior at Tucker (Ga.) High School.
Coming out of Stephenson High School (Stone Mountain, Ga.), D.J. was a 3-star recruit and ranked as the No. 78 weak-side defensive end in the Class of 2016.
“He’s a good pass rusher,” Dylan said. “He’s quick off the ball and he brings that strength that they need. He’s a good defensive end.
It’s been more than a year since the brothers squared off during workout with Nathan O’Neal. They split the 1-on-1 reps with Dylan taking one and D.J. the other.
According to little brother, it’s not even a question who would win if they matched up today.
“He would probably do like a stab, a long-armed stab,” Dylan said. “I’d just knock it off, knock him off balance and drive him in the dirt.”
Friendly trash talk aside, it’s all love between the two brothers. The typical non-football battles between brothers are in the past. Even then, they weren’t all that serious.
“It was mostly when we were younger, over little stuff, like he’s too close,” Dylan said.
Now, Dylan is trying to get to where D.J. is these days, playing Power 5 football. He has plenty of options.
Dylan’s offer sheet includes most of the SEC: Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee are among them. Ohio State and Southern Cal are also in the mix.
While D.J. would like to have him at South Carolina, there’s not much pressure to hop on board with the Gamecocks.
This much is certain: Dylan’s proud of his big brother.
“It’s kind of crazy, because (D.J.) came a long way,” Dylan said. “He came a long way with his technique and stuff like that. He looked good (last season).”
