4-star QB Dakereon Joyner sets announcement time
June 11, 2017
Joyner, who’s ranked as the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2018, tweeted on Saturday that his announcement is set for 4:30 on Father’s Day at Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, S.C.
The date was selected so he could honor his late father, Damond Alton Joyner, who died July 19, 2009.
According to the 247Sports composite, Joyner is listed as the No. 4 overall prospect in the state of South Carolina’s 2018 recruiting cycle. He fielded several offers throughout the recruiting process, including Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Louisville, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
Some offers, including Clemson’s, were as an athlete. But South Carolina has remained steadfast in recruiting him as a quarterback.
That’s expected to pay off next Sunday afternoon. The Gamecocks hosted Joyner for another visit on Friday, plus he’s been a regular on campus for the previous 12 months or so, including almost every home game last season.
If he commits to South Carolina, Joyner would be the top overall prospect in the 2018 commitment class. The Gamecocks’ haul currently has eight commitments, three of whom are in-state prospects.
