4-star quarterback Ryan Hilinski details latest visit, upcoming plansApril 02, 2018
The latest plansSeven schools are in the mix for 4-star quarterback Ryan Hilinski, who spent two days last week visiting South Carolina.
Arizona, Arizona State, Georgia, Ole Miss, Oregon and Texas A&M also made the cut when he trimmed list list to seven. That group will be trimmed to three following his visit to Georgia later this month for the Bulldogs’ spring game.
A commitment will be announced on May 26, the birthday of his late brother, Tyler, the former Washington State quarterback who died in January.
Arizona State and Oregon are scheduled to host Ryan for visits later this month. A trip to Texas A&M could be in the works. He’s postponed plans to return to Ole Miss this upcoming weekend, so he could work with quarterback trainer Jordan Palmer to prepare for the Elite 11 quarterback camp.
South Carolina recruiting stopAccompanied by his mother and older brother, Kelly, Ryan arrived to South Carolina on Thursday night.
They watched practice Friday morning and spent time with South Carolina coach Will Muschamp and quarterbacks coach Dan Werner. That afternoon, the family looked at houses in Columbia.
They plan to move to wherever Ryan chooses to play football. Kelly will be there as a medical student. Their afternoon around Columbia went well.
“Just getting the feel for the city life, without the coaches and somebody talking in our ear, saying ‘here’s that, here’s this,’ so we just wanted to see what it was like for ourselves,” Ryan said. “We enjoyed it.”
On Saturday, they watched the Gamecocks’ spring game, which was “just amazing.”
“I think, for the last visit, compared to this one, I think they sounded a little bit more motivated that I need to be there at South Carolina,” Ryan said. “They need a quarterback and they could find a quarterback in me and I think it was a great message talking to them, because I can talk to them and I have a great relationship with them, on a personal level.
“I can talk to Coach Werner about some personal things and it seems pretty amazing to me that I can talk to the quarterback coach at South Carolina, about things off the field with such deep seriousness, which is just awesome.”
On Sunday, Muschamp sent him a text message, to let him know they were glad he visited again.
“I got a good message from them and a good feel from them and I think it was an overall great visit,” Ryan said.
