4 star RB ZaQuandre White signs with Gamecocks

Feb. 05, 2020

Nearly two months after announcing his commitment to the Gamecocks, RB ZaQuandre White of Ft. Myers, FL and Iowa Western JC officially became a Gamecock Wednesday morning. White signed his letter-of-intent and faxed it into the USC football offices cementing his spot in the 2020 class that was never publicly recognized by Will Muschamp with his “Spurs Up” tweet that signifies an accepted commitment. White needed to show academic improvement before Muschamp would approve his signing and he got that done.

White began his college career as a linebacker at Florida State. He redshirted in 2017 and played in 10 games for the Seminoles in 2018. But he wanted to play running back and transferred to Iowa Western where this past season he rushed for 876 yards and 10 touchdowns. He took his official visit to USC the weekend of the Clemson game.

“I love coach (Will) Muschamp and coach (Thomas) Brown, the running backs coach,” White said following that visit. “Everything felt like a family. It wasn’t anything about them selling me, it was about, at the end of the day, it’s business and I feel like that this would be a good fit for me. I just feel like I’m an all-around back and can do it all. I just feel like they’ll have a playmaker coming.”

White is rated by the 247Sports composite as a 4-star prospect and the #1 junior college running back in the country. He also considered Tennessee and Arkansas before committing to the Gamecocks. White gives the Gamecocks three running backs in the 2020 class.

“We’re just ready to get in there, I’ll be an older guy, so ready just to get in there and work,” White said earlier this month. “Competition is going to make us better. At the end of the day, we’re all part of one, so I don’t there will be any animosity among us.”

White will have two years to play two for the Gamecocks.

Apparently ZaQuandre was able to show the staff his grades had improved to where they accepted his LOI. Hopefully he gets into the program - we've had other JUCOs on the academic borderline that signed, and then ended up having to go somewhere else. But White appears to have talent and is a big back, and we need as much depth at the RB position as we can get, with all the graduations and transfers....
