4-star WR ready to see Gamecocks’ new-look offense

Ready for that action
Four-star wide receiver Porter Rooks took only three college visits this spring, but he plans to hit the road for more this summer.
Virginia Tech, Miami and South Carolina hosted the 2020 prospect from Providence Day School in Charlotte, N.C. The Gamecocks had him in for a junior day event.
“Got to talk to [offensive coordinator/wide receiver Bryan McClendon], Coach Muschamp, [running backs] coach [bobby] Bentley, of course, just chopping it up,” Rooks said. “It’s always good talking to them. I have a good relationship with them.”
What was the message from Will Muschamp?
“Mainly just their new offensive scheme and how they’re going to do things with their new offensive coordinator,” Rooks said.
Rooks (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) is “looking forward to seeing” what the Gamecocks offense can do this fall.
According to 247Sports, Rooks is ranked as the No. 26 overall prospect in the Class of 2020. Teammate Jacolbe Cowan is 11 spots behind him. The duo could link up again at the college level, but it’s not a definite.
“If it happens, it happens,” Rooks said. “We’re not going to necessarily plan it that way, but if it happens, it happens.”
A lot to like about South Carolina
Four-star defensive end Joseph Anderson (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) is ranked as the No. 15 strongside defensive end in the Class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite.
Anderson, who was high school teammates with Gamecocks freshman tackle Maxwell Iyama, is set to take an official visit the first weekend in June.
“I like the atmosphere,” Anderson said during a recent interview with Phil Kornblut of SportsTalkSC.
“I like their educational standpoint on things. They want you to get a degree and graduate, and that’s what I want to do — get a degree and graduate. They just want you to succeed.”
Crystal Ball recap
Since Traevon Kenion committed to South Carolina on April 29 there haven’t been any Crystal Ball selections for Gamecocks targets in the Class of 2019. But Tennessee has picked up several, including one for a 4-star defensive end who has seriously considered the Gamecocks.
A recap:
5-star CB Andrew Booth (Lawrenceville, Ga.) – Auburn
Booth visited Auburn over the weekend and picked up a selection from SEC Country’s Ben Wolk, but several other programs are in the mix, including Clemson, Florida State and Georgia. The ACC’s Tigers are considered the favorites, according to the Crystal Ball.
4-star WR Ramel Keyton (Marietta, Ga.) – Tennessee
Three picks for the Vols were issued late last month and another came through last week. South Carolina offered last June, but there hasn’t been much movement.
4-star CB Tayvion Land (Virginia Beach, Va.) – Maryland
Virginia Tech was once thought to be the team to beat, but the Terps have received two selections this month.
4-star DE Dante Walker (Riverdale, Ga.) – Tennessee
South Carolina and Tennessee have been listed as co-leaders, though it’s not clear how much interest there’s been from the Gamecocks. They already have a commitment from Rodricus Fitten, who profiles at the same position.
4-star QB Jacob Zeno (San Antonio) – Baylor
Two more selections have come through for Baylor. Zeno was the final 2019 quarterback to add a South Carolina offer before Ryan Hilinski committed.
