Apollo 13 lifted off for what turned out to be the most nerve wracking NASA flight we had yet experienced. But as you know, we got the astronauts back safely. I was 11 at the time and living on Sheppard AFB, TX where my Dad was stationed at the time. I still remember how we cut loose when the principal announced over the PA that the astronauts had splashed down safely. As we were allowed to go home for lunch, I sprinted home in time to see the crew being hoisted aboard the helicopter and their arrival on the USS Iwo Jima.
Were you around back then, and if so, where were you?
