5 star 6-5 175lbs Sindarius Thornwell of Lancaster and Oak Hill Academy in Virginia committed Monday night to USC. Thornwell picked the Gamecocks over NC State and announced his decision on his Facebook page shortly after 8:00 PM. According to his coach at Oak Hill, Thornwell gave no indication of a decision during or after practice and actually told USC assistant coach Lamont Evans first about his decision. He later called head coach Frank Martin with the news. "He was super excited," Thornwell said. "It feels good, like a lot of pressure is off me. I'm really focused on school and getting this national championship at Oak Hill." Early on Thornwell was targeted by USC and Clemson and as the summer wore on schools like NC State, Ohio State, Memphis, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Miami moved in with offers. The in state schools had the advantage and eventually USC moved to the front of the pack. "Coach Frank, from the very first day I met coach I felt a bond with him," Thornwell said. "He loves to win and will do whatever it takes." And Thornwell feels he will fit in nicely with that approach and Martin's style of basketball. "I just want to do whatever it takes to win," he said. "I can play multiple positions and I just want to get after it." Oak Hill coach Steve Smith, who has sent dozens of players to major college programs over the years, feels the Gamecocks landed a gem in Thornwell. "I think it's big for him and them," Smith said. "For them to land a guy like Sindarius is a bonus in recruiting. They haven't gotten that level of player the last few years. He can go in there and play. He's got a chance to be a really good player. The people at South Carolina should be excited about him coming there." Thornwell would have been the top player in the state for this season had he not transferred to the prep school. Last season he averaged 28 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists per game. He is the second commitment for the 2013 class for the Gamecocks. link: http://www.goupstate...9957/-1/PSPORTS
