6-foot-7 Florida DE makes ‘fifth or sixth’ visit to South Carolina

July 19, 2016

Chaz Neal certainly looks the part.

The 6-foot-7, 253-pound defensive end from Armwood High School (Seffner, Fla.) was back on South Carolina’s campus Tuesday for the Will Muschamp Football Camp.

It’s the second Muschamp Camp stop of the summer for the 3-star recruit, who was on campus in June for a one-day session. Last month, the 2018 prospect was joined by his cousin, 2019 offensive lineman Evan Neal, a one-time Alabama commitment.

The elder Neal, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 24 weak-side defensive end, returned Tuesday, marking his “fifth or sixth” trip to see the Gamecocks. SEC Country spoke with him after Tuesday’s workout.

“I like the atmosphere around the school, campus-wise, coaches-wise,” he said. “I love the coaches.”

Over the course of Muschamp’s short tenure in Columbia, the Gamecocks’ head coach has developed a good relationship with Neal, whose offer sheet includes South Carolina, South Florida and Southern Cal.

“Muschamp is cool. He’s very out-spoken. He has a lot of love to give and he shows that he cares about the team,” Neal said.

SkinnySouth Carolina is in strong position for both Neal brothers. Chaz is planning to return before the start of his junior season. Evan, who attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., could also make the jaunt from Florida to Columbia later this summer.
