...Japan formerly surrendered aboard the USS Missouri in Toyko Bay. Do any of you have any relatives who were there that day? A few of my cousins were there on other ships. They have all since passed on, so the flag is out today in honor of them and all vets who have passed on.

Please post photos of your relatives who served in WWII.

My grandfather was aboard the LSM-282 in the South Pacific during this time.

I had 3 Uncles serving in the Pacific in WWII.  2 in the Navy and 1 in the Army.  None were at the signing ceremony though.  Mrs B had an Uncle who was in the Army still serving on Guadalcanal at the time of the surrender.

I had an uncle that was a Machinist Mate on a destroyer that operated out of Espiritu Santo in the New Hebrides in the South Pacific.  I think he got there after the early Guadalcanal naval battles where so many destroyer men lost their lives.

I also remember him telling me about the SS President Coolidge sinking, so that would have been around October 26, 1942.  The Navy casualties outnumbered the Marines 5-to-1 in the naval battles around Guadalcanal and the ships always retired to Espiritu Santo 500 miles to the east to get out of the range of air attacks.  I should call my cousin and get the destroyer's name from him.

My 2nd dad/uncle was on a hospital ship as a medic in that area at that time. He never saw anything since the invasion never happened.
