A 2019 TE to know; Dan Werner sees in-state QB

Feb. 08, 2018

Tight end to watch

Three-star tight end Garmon Randolph is among the handful of 2019 tight ends with an offer from South Carolina. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound prospect from Jefferson (Ga.) High School has visited the Gamecocks twice.

Trip No. 1 was in the fall for the Kentucky game before a stop last month for junior day.

“I liked it,” he said of the January visit. “I guess, how they’re so invested into the players. I liked that. How the coaches talked about it – they’ve already got a plan and everything.”

Tight ends coach Pat Washington serves as his primary recruiter to South Carolina. Washington’s message to Randolph while he was on campus was pretty direct.

“They wanted me to come there,” Randolph said.

Auburn welcomed him back to The Plains a week after his trip to South Carolina.

“It was the first time I got to tour everything, because when I went, I went to a game. It was early,” Randolph said. “I think it was an early game, so we didn’t get to see everything. It was good.”

Both schools have offered, and so have Florida, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina State, Ole Miss and Wisconsin.

“The coach, player relationships. I want a coach that’s going to be real with you,” Randolph said, when asked about factors in his recruitment. “You’ve got to be real and if the fans – got to have good fans, of course. And a good city. And a good education, of course.”

Up next are tentative plans to visit Clemson and N.C. State.

According to 247Sports, Randolph is the No. 13 tight end in the Class of 2019. He plans to wait until Signing Day 2019 to reveal his decision.

On Dan Werner’s radar

Greenville (S.C.) High School quarterback Davis Beville was among the 2019 prospects who South Carolina quarterbacks coach Dan Werner evaluated during the recent recruiting period. They spoke after the visit.

“He really liked what he saw on my film and wanted to visit with me in person,” Beville said. “I enjoyed meeting him and think he is a really good addition to coach Muschamp’s staff.”

Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Campbell have offered the 6-6, 200-pound prospect.

The Gamecocks could be up for a visit at some point in the not too distant future.

“No specific date yet but look forward to visiting again sometime soon,” Beville said.
