A dominant WR?

I think this might be the first year in a long time when we didn't have at least one dominant wide receiver.  We have always found a way for one incredible player to pave the way for another and then another, but I think this year, we may just be sharing the ball around a ton without a standout go-to. I hope I'm wrong! But when you think about the pedigree at this position for us, it's pretty amazing, even just going back to Lou's tenure and his run-heavy offenses, with player and number of catches:

Jermale Kelly (42)  ->Brian Scott (47) -> (2002 a gap year - Corey Jenkins was running the option-based attack, and Ryan Brewer led the team with 28 catches) ->Troy Williamson (43) -> (SOS takes over) Sidney Rice (70) ->Sidney Rice (72) ->Kenny McKinley (RIP) (77) ->Kenny McKinley (54) -> Alshon Jeffrey (46) -> Alshon (88) -> Alshon (49) -> Ace Sanders (45) -> Bruce Ellington (49) -> Pharoh Cooper (69) -> Pharoh (66) -> (Muschamp takes over) Deebo Samuel (59) -> Bryan Edwards (64) -> Deebo (62) -> Bryan Edwards (71) ->Shi Smith (57)

Alshon's 88 catches in 2010 is still our record.

we won't attract WR's until we prove that we have a qb who can get them the ball consistently...I miss the big body receivers

Agreed. I think that is changing, but we also need some of this 4-star talent we have to start playing like 4-star talent ...

This could be a blessing in disguise for us, while it’s great to have a clear #1 it also causes young guys to focus in on them.  Im sure someone will emerge as the season moves on.

We have had some pretty good WRs over the years.  I do think having a stronger QB will help attract that talent, but as Swayin' mentioned, some of these WR that have been in the program for years need to step up finally.

I think this year we should be looking for reliable/dependable WRs as well as spreading the ball around more than a dominant single WR.  Could see the TE or a back leading the team in receptions as well.

That’s what I’m thinking and hoping. Having an outstanding receiver is good, but we were a bit one dimensional in the passing game. I think I’d rather have several “pretty good” guys, and spread it around, rather than one “outstanding” guy that we always go to.
One report I read of the Saturday scrimmage said the WRs didn’t look that great at the beginning, but definitely improved by the end. Let’s hope that trend continues.

I think Shi last season seemed like the only guy besides Nick Muse who could actually catch the dang ball ... I would be overjoyed with three or four pretty good guys, for sure.

We need guys to step up big time in this position. Kevin Harris for all his greatness is going to have issues if we can’t throw and catch the ball down the field.

Josh Vann has really, really, really, really, really risen, up my ranks anyway, from the spring until this point,” Satterfield said. “Just his mentality, work ethic, commitment to the game, commitment to special teams. We talk to these guys all the time. They have to play special teams. Just the toughness and the accountability for this football team, we need you on special teams.

“Those two are just attacking that 100 miles an hour. That’s really good to see.”
From Coach Satt.

Not since the 2012 and 2013 seasons when we had guys like Bruce Ellington, Damiere Byrd, Shaq Roland, Nick Jones. Those seasons we had a bunch of guys who averaged 30-40 receiving yds per game, and 500+ yds per season. But we had enough of them plus TEs like Justice Cunningham and Rory Anderson to spread the wealth around, and Shaw and Thompson still combined for 3,000+ passing yds each of those seasons.

With how talented our RB corps appears to be heading into the season, we really just need a dependable passing game enough to keep opponents from loading everybody into the box, and forcing our inexperienced QB - whoever he'll be - from feeling like he needs to force things to make plays happen. That's when the costly  turnovers and mistakes happen in games....
