Class of 2016 safety Savalas Cann 6-foot-2, 203 [pounds] (Bamberg/Bamberg-Ehrhardt) is familiar with the South Carolina program as his older brother A.J. has been a standout performer on the Gamecocks' offensive line over the last three seasons.
Now it's time for the younger Cann, who has early offers from South Carolina, Clemson, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, N.C. State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech, to go through his own recruiting process.
Cann participated in the Gamecock Showcase Camp in late July.
"It was real good," he said. "There was a lot of competition. I only had a couple of passes completed on me, so overall I thought I did pretty good. I had some pass breakups and a couple of interceptions. I enjoyed it and I want to come back next year."
Cann is being recruited to South Carolina by running backs coach Everette Sands.
"I like the coaches at South Carolina," Cann said. "They said that I've gotten real big and that I looked good. I'm 6-foot-2, 203 [pounds] now. I like the facilities, they're real nice. I like the academics and all that. The way they talk about it is real good. I wouldn't mind going there. If I go there, I will have a lot of fans there from Bamberg."
The younger Cann has received some advice from his older brother.
"He tells me, don't just go there just because he went there, that I should go wherever I fit best at," Savalas Cann said.
Savalas is taking his older brother's advice. Right now the Gamecocks sit third on his list behind Georgia, which is his leader, and Florida. LSU, Clemson, N.C. State and North Carolina are also in his top group.
What does Cann like about Georgia?
"I took a visit down there and I just really liked it," Cann said. "I really stuck with it since then and feel like I would fit in real good at Georgia."
Cann doesn't plan a decision until his senior year.
