The latest batch of fun comes from Sporting News, which recently listed its top 25 players for the 2013 college football season. The SEC is well represented on the list, with nine players making the cut. Alabama leads the way with three players inside the top 25, while Georgia and Texas A&M both have two players on it.
Coming in at No. 1 on Sporting News' countdown is Texas A&M quarterback -- and reigning Heisman Trophy winner -- Johnny Manziel. No real shocker there, but I was surprised to see South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney rank fourth. I think you could switch Clowney and Manziel out at one and two and no one would really complain. But putting Clowney fourth is a bit low, if you ask me.
Also I was a bit surprised at Georgia running back Todd Gurley being No. 3. While I think he's one of the best players in the SEC and the country, three sounds a little high to me. But after the spring he had, it doesn't sound like he'll be slowing down anytime soon.

Thoughts
I really like the McCarron pick. I think he's going to have big final year at Alabama. Manziel gets most of the attention when it comes to SEC quarterbacks, but I think McCarron has some of the best technique and smarts at the position. I'll go as far to say that I think he passes for more than 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns this year. You read it here first!
I would probably have had Matthews higher. He's another player who I think will have a big year. Sure, he won't show up in the stats column, but he should be one of the best left tackles in the country. He'll likely be a top-10 pick in next year's NFL draft.
Having Purifoy and Mosley on this list makes a lot of sense. Purifoy could play his way to being the top corner in the sport this year and Mosely has all the tools to be one of the best linebackers in the country. I think both will have very big seasons at their respective schools.
But where is Amari Cooper? He was one of the best receivers around at the end of last season. Chris Black could cut into his catches, but it could also open things up for him even more. I think he'll be even more of a deep threat this season for the Crimson Tide and should put up great numbers in his second year.

- Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama: He might be the best safety in the country when it's all said and done this year.
- Dominique Easley, DT, Florida: He's a monster in the middle, but can play outside if needed.
- Anthony Johnson, DT, LSU: He has freakish ability, and I think we'll see all of it this year.
- Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt: He's quietly one of the best receivers in the SEC.
- Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama: Could battle Jake Matthews for the best left tackle around.
- Donte Moncrief, WR, Ole Miss: He won't sneak up on anyone, but he'll figure out ways to get past them.
