Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina make the cut for DE Stephon Wynn Jr.

June 22, 2017

Four-star defensive end Stephon Wynn Jr. will announce his commitment on July 1. Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina are the finalists.

Wynn, a 2018 prospect at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., finalized the plans on Wednesday afternoon. The decision will be revealed in his hometown of Anderson, S.C.

Earlier this month, during the Will Muschamp Football Camp, South Carolina’s staff played host to Wynn and his entire family. Just weeks earlier, the No. 5 strong-side defensive end in the Class of 2018 shared some of the factors that will be considered in his recruitment.

“The main thing is education, somewhere I can get the best degree, because education is big in my family. … The next thing is family, somewhere I can call home for the next 30, 40 years,” Wynn said. “Whenever I graduate, that’s still my college.”

Stephon Wynn Sr., who played tight end at Clemson, is impressed with the way South Carolina coach Will Muschamp has recruited his son.

“From a father’s perspective, I’ve learned that Muschamp and his staff, they’re great people. They’ve got something great going on at Carolina,” he said. “We know that they love the kids and they give them a lot of knowledge about the game.

“And they’re trying to increase the environment. They’re building that new facility that’s going to cost about $55 million, so they can stay up there and get to the top tier where some of the other programs are already at, so we liked that.

“We like everything about Muschamp’s staff. They’re recruiting the hind out of Stephon.”
