Jan. 16, 2017
On Monday afternoon, Joe Doyle received a preferred walk-on offer from South Carolina.
Doyle, who’s from Farragut Academy in Knoxville, Tenn., is the No. 6-rated punter in the class of 2017. He also punted in the Under Armour All-American Game.
Doyle (6-0, 190) lists offers from Air Force and Charlotte. As a senior, he averaged 41.1 yards per punt, knocked 60 percent of his kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks and connected on 8 of 14 field goals.
According to his profile on kohlskicking.com:
“Doyle has been very impressive at multiple Kohl’s events. His best event was the 2016 National Scholarship Camp where his charts landed him a spot in the Under Armour All-American Game.
“His clean hands and consistent foot work has helped him develop him into a very refined punter. Doyle had a very strong showing last year at the 2015 National Scholarship Camp and is a college ready punter who can compete early in his college career.”
South Carolina is looking to fill the void left behind by Sean Kelly, who served as the Gamecocks starting punter for two seasons, after transferring from Florida Atlantic University.
The Gamecocks recently extended a preferred walk-on offer to long snapper Ben Reeder.
