Another Gamecock player leaving the basketball program via the transfer portal​


South Carolina basketball is losing a second player to the transfer portal. Former Ridge View High standout Ja’Von Benson has entered the transfer portal, a source close to the program confirmed to The State on Monday. Monday was the first day that the NCAA transfer portal officially opened again. It’s open for 60 days.

Benson joined junior center Tre-Vaughn Minott in making plans to leave South Carolina. Benson was part of the 2020 signing class with Minott and A.C. Flora’s Patrick Iriel. All three are no longer with the program. (Iriel left the program just before the 2020-21 season began. Minott enrolled midseason.)

This was a really bad season and the player mix didn't seem to lend itself to much success in terms of W-L record.

It wouldn't surprise me if we see a few more guys hit the portal.
