With spots filling up in the USC class for 2013, OL Alan Knott (6-5 270) of Tyrone, GA decided he would not risk being left out in the cold. Knott contacted Gamecock offensive line coach Shawn Elliott via Facebook Sunday night to tell he he was ready to commit. He followed up with a phone call to bcome the 17th commitment for 2013 and the fourth for the offensive line. "He'd been leaning to South Carolina and the SEC and really wanted to play in the SEC in the end," Knott's father Tommy said. "They had some guys commit this week and he wanted to make sure he had his place secured." Knott picked the Gamecocks over North Carolina. He also had offers from East Carolina, Miami, South Florida, Southern Miss, Syracuse, Central Florida, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Memphis, Indiana and Florida International. Knott visited USC for a junior day and had been strong on the Gamecocks since then. "He feels like he'll fit in good," his father said. "Elliott told him he could play anywhere on the line. He's willing to do whatever they need from him." Knott is the second Georgia offensive lineman to commit to the Gamecocks this weekend. JP Vanashek of Kingsland committed Saturday following an unofficial visit.
