Anyone Own A Tesla?

When electric cars first came on the market, I thought they were an idiotic thing, but as time has gone on, I’ve been impressed. I had a customer who was German, and as he put it “I bleed the internal combustion engine”, but he bought a Tesla, and loves it. He gave me a tour of his, and I was amazed at how well it functions. I thought charging it would take much longer than it does, and the power and acceleration are phenomenal. In my business, I pull a lot of trailers, so I have both a Ram 3500 and an F-350, and both are diesels. I don’t know that electric vehicles are feasible at this point for towing, but I would definitely consider a car for my wife in the future, if we needed another car.
Does anyone own a Tesla, and want to brag about it, or share some of your experiences?

I do not but a good friend has one.  He loves it and its his daily driver for work but also makes longer distance trips on occasion.  No real issues other than some door/body alignment issues that came up initially.  Tesla repaired it but it took all new doors and a while to get them in.  That and the dealer being in Charlotte was his major headaches.  Like I said, he really likes it but I'm not sure if he's trying to convince me or himself of that.  Ride and other quality from a passenger standpoint are good.

I keep building and pricing them...I really want one but not sure the practicality based on my family situation....I think my next car will be a tesla

A friend of mine has one and loves it.  I have ridden in it multiple times and ride is nice, plenty of power and some cool features.  I would lean towards a hybrid at this point - mostly for the distance ability.  I don't know the price points of Tesla's cars either.  Seems like they are pretty well made cars except for a few issues I have read about - but that happens with lots of cars.

price points starts in the low 40's and then well into six figures

That seems about right STS.  I guess for me, I would lean towards a hybrid for less $.  I know they still use gas, just less, but you can get one for less than $40K easy.  My parents have a Hybrid Camry that was definitely less than $40K (my dad is cheap, esp with cars).  Although as the batteries get better and go farther, I may look at electric.  How long do the Tesla batteries last?  I thought I had heard 10 years or more.

Prices are dropping and new EVs are hitting the market.  I see Musk in his every now and again.  It is the future

I guess I am in the minority, but I just don't see the appeal.

I also don't understand spending  $40k car just to drive back and forth to work.

My mom bought a Nissan Leaf about two years before she stopped driving, so we drove it for a while before giving it to our daughter in law to tote the babies around in ... and I'll tell you, never having to think about gas and never pulling into a gas station again is a real joy, not just for the expense but for the time and effort too.

I guess. I fill up once a week, it's not really much of a hassle, but to each their own. I also don't like driving cars in general, too low for my taste.

If they make a truck that actually looks decent, is functional, is under $40k and has a 12,000lb towing rating, I might be interested.

I agree about the price.  Understand why they are priced that way, but I am not looking to spend $40K on a car now or maybe ever.  My Subaru gets about 25/27 MPG around town and now I work from home - at least for the time being.  It was less than $24K so another $16-$25K is a lot to spend for me.  I paid cash when I bought my Subaru, so no car payment.  I understand you save money on gas, but $16-25K is a lot of gas.  Hoping the technology keeps getting better and less expensive.

The '55-'57 Chevys sold so well because they were attractive and affordable.  Same for the '64 Mustang.

Affordability and dealership availability for maintenance would seem to be the two biggest drawbacks to Telsa at this point.

I'm kind of in the same boat, CC, but when I saw one of my customer's Tesla, I was amazed. Locomotives are diesel engines that power electric motors, so the power isn't the problem, it's the battery.  I am like you in that I drive a truck for two reasons.  1. I like it, and don't like being down low. 2. With my business, I have to have a lot of towing capacity.  Where I think this could be really interesting is if they start making the bodies out of solar panels, so your battery is constantly being charged during the day.  That would be extremely helpful if a  truck/SUV could be in a very remote area, and not have to worry about carrying fuel.
