COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The University of South Carolina baseball team (10-4) looks to sweep its series with the Cornell Big Red (1-7) with a win in Game 3 Sunday at 1:00 PM at Founders Park. The Gamecocks are one win shy of equaling their longest win streak of the young season of 4 games, and securing their first series sweep since the opening weekend against Holy Cross. The game Sunday will be streamed on SEC Network Plus, and will be broadcast on The Game 107.5 FM.

In the Saturday Game 2 of the series, the Gamecocks scored three runs in the first and added on four runs in the third while Thomas Farr threw six one-hit innings to pick up his third win of 2020.
 
Farr struck out six in his six frames, allowing the hit with a pair of walks. John Gilreath struck out a pair in his inning of work while Josiah Sightler had four punchouts in 1.2 innings.
 
Noah Myers opened the first with a triple to the gap in left. He scored on Jeff Heinrich's single up the middle. Heinrich then trotted home as Wes Clarke belted his eighth home run of the season, a shot to the visitor's bullpen in left.

In the third, Myers walked, stole second and stole third. Heinrich and Andrew Eyster both walked and Clarke was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Brady Allen singled through the left side to bring in the fifth run of the game. Carolina scored the final two runs of the frame on a wild pitch and a ground-ball double play.
 
Heinrich drove in his second run of the day with an RBI single in the sixth. Carolina scored an unearned run in the seventh. Cornell came back to score three runs in the eighth, but Carolina added its final run of the contest in the bottom of the eighth on a Burgess RBI groundout.
 
Heinrich and Allen had two hits apiece in the win while Myers reached base four times. Clarke drove in three runs, upping his season total to 22.

Yep, the Yardcocks win Game 3 6-1 over Cornell and sweep the weekend series to improve to 11-4 on the season. Brannon Jordan (2-0) pitched a strong 5.0 innings of 2-hit baseball allowing 1 earned run, with 10 strikeouts and only 1 walk. All the damage Cornell inflicted came in the 3rd inning, with a single then a RBI double to score their run. Minus that one stumble, Jordan was stellar on the mound.

The Gamecock batters had 9 hits today, with 4 of them being a double and 3 home runs. Andrew Eyster had the hottest bat, going 2 for 3 with a 3-RBI homer in the 6th inning to put the game out of reach. The other home runs were solo shots from Brady Allen, who also went 2 for 3, in the 2nd inning, and Jeff Heinrich, who batted 2 for 4, in the 5th. Bryant Bowen provided the 6th run on a sacrifice fly out in the 4th inning.

Carolina continues its homestand Tuesday night (March 10) as the Gamecocks host The Citadel. First pitch from Founders Park is set for 7 p.m.....
