Bentley tweeted he’ll join the Pac 12 runner up Utah Utes

Dec. 09, 2019

South Carolina’s Jake Bentley announced he would leave Columbia as a graduate transfer soon after the regular season ended. Now he’s found his next spot. Bentley tweeted he’ll join the Pac 12 runner up Utah Utes to finish out his college career. The Utes went 11-1 this season and finished out with an upset loss to Oregon in the conference title game.

What a great place to play football and spend your senior year. He's a good kid and deserves another year of playing where he wants. I wish him nothing but success.

I wish him well, also.  What will that say about our coaching staff if he does light it up?
Wish him the best.

Not sure what it says about our staff. But I do know that the NCState coach that ran off Russel Wilson didn’t last to much longer afterwards.

not that ive watched much utah football, but its an interesting situation on paper.  their outgoing qb tyler huntley ran it 168 times in 2017, but that number shrank to 88 this past year in what was still a run heavy offense overall.  huntley finished with the nation's 2nd highest comp pct and 5th highest passer rating.  they lose their best rb, but clearly they are committed to running the football.  while they dont throw it a lot, they do return 4 out of their top 5 receiving targets, 3 of which averaged at least 18 yards per catch.  i wanted him to come back, but hes probably going into a much better situation.

He was our starter since he was 17 and should have been in HS and then got hurt during the first game of his 'Senior' season. He is a good QB that needed to work on his decision making and not turning the ball over. I think most reasonable people believed he was on his way to having his best season until he suffered a season ending injury in that first game. He has the experience, maturity and leadership skills to be a great QB...if he plays well next year at Utah it says nothing negative about our coaches what so ever.

These two situations have zero in common with each other so comparing them or staffs doesn't make much since.

No QB that's left us the past several years spanning Spurrier and Muschamp has "lit it up" anywhere else. LOL

Every year he was here, he was supposed to break out, but he continued to make bad decisions and underperform.  I know his numbers were good, but numbers need to translate to wins.  I don't wish anything bad for him.  I want him to do well, but I don't think it will be as a player, it will be as a coach.  Our offense looked abominable in the UNC game.  The OC deserves some credit for that, but at some point, the QB needs to shoulder the load, and make it happen.

I was referring more to pass protection than anything else.  I always felt like Jake had too much pressure on him during games to get comfortable back there.

Yeah it’s a way different situation. But if Bentley lights it up and Hilinski struggles next year - everyone will blame the coaching.
