Big man headed to Gamecocks right now

STR / January 8, 2021

USC basketball coach Frank Martin Thursday night had to announce another stoppage in his season due to Covid. But his recruiting continues and he landed a commitment from 6-11 Tre-Vaughn Minott, a native of Montreal who last attended the NBA Academy Latin America. And not a commitment for next season, but a commitment that starts immediately.

Minott arrived in Columbia earlier this week and enrolled in school Wednesday. He will be eligible right away to play for the Gamecocks during the rest of this season.

“This is a great opportunity and I’m excited to be down in Columbia putting in the work with their great coaching staff,” Minott told North Pole Hoops.   “Above all, I want to get better and help this team win a championship.”

Strange for a mid-year addition, but in this year of the pandemic, probably a much needed body.  I hope he's in shape.

Hope the Cocks can get back on the court to play. Looking forward to seeing him play.

Has he even seen the court at all yet?
@ShepCockFour minutes total.  No contribution to the stat sheet other than one turnover.

I would describe it this way... he's 10 months of suicide sprints, diet, and playbook studying away from being a serious contributor, but after the team performance on Saturday, he still deserves minutes on the court.

He could get in decent enough shape to help in a month.

But we do not need him if we can get McCreary back to go with Leveque. Benson would be the 3rd guy, ahead of Minott.

Also, Minott was listed at 6'11" and 6' 9 1/2" in the write-ups. I would put him closer to 6' 8". Still a big body that can bang on the boards when he gets in shape.
Probably true, but one month from now, we have three games left in our season.  Unfortunately, that'll be too late for him to become a good contributor.  Don't get me wrong... I saw your comments about TreVaughn earlier in the thread, and I agree with them.  He's definitely got the size we need, and he's coming to the team with most of the attributes that Frank can mold well, so I like what he provides to the squad.  I was simply disappointed to see that he's not quite in "game shape" right now - hence my earlier comments to Shep.

Good article on TreVaughn Minott on The State/GoGamecocks today.

I can see it in the app, but if you try to visit the website, it's got a paywall in front of it (which means I can't add link here, unfortunately).  Hope some of you can see/enjoy.
