Big OT Malachi Toliver Set To See USC Again Saturday Gamecocks

SPORTSTALK / January 20, 2023

1674252819607.pngUSC is one of the offers out to OT Malachi Toliver (6-6 300) of Cartersville, GA, home of Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence, the former Clemson start quarterback who is now quarterbacking Jacksonville in the playoffs, might be the big name in Cartersville, but Toliver is certainly one of the big people, and his recruiting stature is large as well.

Toliver also has offers from Ole Miss, Michigan, Cincinnati, Purdue, Louisville, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, UAB, Miami, LSU, Nebraska, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Tennessee, Auburn, Penn State, Missouri and North Carolina.

Toliver was at USC for their home opener against Georgia State last September so he already has a feel for what to expect Saturday when he returns to campus.

“One thing I like is the fan base and the feel of the coaches and stuff,” Toliver said. “It’s a great atmosphere to be in. I’ve experienced it myself and had an amazing time, and I definitely love that their program is on a rise.”

Toliver said he’s been hearing from new offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley and former line coach Greg Adkins along with recruiting assistant Sam Serbay. At this point, the Gamecocks are in a decent spot with Toliver.

“I would definitely say I think high of them,” Toliver said. “They are definitely a team I think of and like a lot. I want to see their campus. That’s one thing I didn’t get to see and get a tour of yet. And I want to meet the whole staff and get a feel for everyone. Just get to know everything about South Carolina a little bit more.”

Toliver visited Louisville last weekend and he plans to see Georgia next weekend. He was at Auburn earlier this week as well. This past season he took in games at LSU and Auburn. He also has visited Cincinnati, Florida and Florida State.

Toliver said he will wait until the end of the summer, or into his season, before making his decision.
