Big Ten announces new media rights deals with Fox, CBS, NBC reportedly worth $7 billion

August 18, 2022
The Big Ten’s massive new media rights deals are official.

The conference announced Thursday that it reached distribution agreements with Fox, CBS, NBC and Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service. The agreements will officially begin July 1, 2023 and run through the 2029-30 football season, making it a seven-year deal in all.

The Big Ten called its new deals “the most comprehensive in all of college sports.” And according to multiple media outlets, the new agreements are worth more than $7 billion over that span of seven years. CBS and NBC are each paying around $350 million per year for their Big Ten broadcast packages, per multiple reports.

Notably, Big Ten conference games will no longer air on ESPN for the first time in 40 years after the network pulled out of negotiations last week. ESPN has an exclusive 10-year deal with the SEC that begins in 2024-25.

According to USA Today, the Big Ten distributed $54.3 million to its members during the 2019-20 fiscal year. With the new media deals in place, that figure could double. (READ ARTICLE)

Well, I guess the SEC will try to redo their contract now. If the Big 10 is 7 million and the SEC is 10 fold a better league. you know the rest of the story stay tuned...

Like I said the NCAA will be history in the Power 5

The Company

CFP Administration, LLC, manages the administration operations of the College Football Playoff. Members of the company are the 10 FBS conferences (American Athletic, Atlantic Coast, Big Ten, Big 12, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West, Pac-12, Southeastern and Sun Belt) and the University of Notre Dame.

With this package, be no ESPN GAMEDAY for the Big10

I would be lying if I said I cared about any of the Big 10 teams during the regular season, although I have paid occasional attention to Iowa.

The only time I really watch the NFL or other college teams on a regular basis is when we totally suck. I just don't want to waste the entire weekend in front of the TV set if the weather is nice and there is other stuff I can do.

The 2022 season will be interesting to watch from an overall greed standpoint, but I think things will get back to normal in 2023.

The ESPN part of this makes you wonder if lay-offs are coming and that is why ESPN pulled out.

Yeah I'm with you. I usually watch the Gamecock game, though if we are not having a great season, or the game is out of hand, I may listen on the app on my phone while I go do yard work or something.

Other games I usually only watch in the evening if if nothing esle is going on, Ill watch whatever is on sat nigh CFB or Sun night NFL.
