Bold predictions for South Carolina on National Signing Day

Jan. 31, 2017

There are a handful of undecided recruits South Carolina coach Will Muschamp is waiting to receive signed letters of intent from on Wednesday.

On the eve of National Signing Day, SEC Country reporter Hale McGranahan takes a stab at what could happen for the Gamecocks.

Williams holds on

Moments after Jamyest Williams’ commitment to South Carolina, it was apparent that the 4-star cornerback from Grayson High School (Loganville, Ga.) would still look at his other options.

Williams took official visits to two other schools: Oklahoma and Georgia.

But this decision is coming down to the SEC East rivals. Fortunately for the Gamecocks, they had Williams for the final official visit. That final bit of face time could be enough for South Carolina to hang on to this one. And the Gamecocks, led by defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson, boast an extremely close relationship with Williams.

South Carolina signs Williams.

Johnson signs with South Carolina

There’s an old saying in the recruiting world: follow the visits. That has to apply here, right?

Brad Johnson was at South Carolina about 10 times. Virginia Tech also had him for an official visit. Family is important to Johnson, and Williams-Brice Stadium is about 3 hours closer to Pendleton, S.C., than Lane Stadium.

Plus, the drive to Columbia is a heck of a lot easier than the one to Blacksburg.

South Carolina signs Johnson.

#SpursUp for Carty and Sterling

3-star offensive tackle Jordon Carty (Hollywood, Fla.) and 3-star defensive end Aaron Sterling (Tucker, Ga.) were both on campus at South Carolina for the final official visit weekend of the 2017 cycle.
