The South Carolina Women's Basketball program submitted a statement today that there were positive Covid-19 test results yesterday in anticipation for tonight's UGA game. As a result, the #5/4-ranked Gamecocks (7-1, 2-0) have suspended all team activities "until further notice", and have postponed tonight's game:
No word on how long the team's schedule will be paused. The Gamecocks had gotten to this point almost miraculously without major interruptions within their program, although they had a number of games canceled/postponed due to concerns involving other teams they were scheduled to play. With the Covid-19 virus spread raging at its highest rates ever and seemingly unstoppable, I guess it was only a matter of time before the team itself would be directly touched by it.
Hopefully we'll get more information soon, and the pause will only last a week at the most, or 2 weeks at the worst. But we had an awful lot of conference games scheduled for that time - we had two more games to play this week, and it's Thursday already.....
