Bryce Thompson update: His plan going forward

March 04, 2018

South Carolina defensive back commitment Bryce Thompson of Dutch Fork had plans to visit the Gamecocks Saturday to watch spring practice. He also laid out his plan looking forward.

“As of right now everything is still the same,” Thompson said. “Hoping to sign in April.”

Thompson said he’s eyeing an April signing because his grades are improving. The 6-foot-1, versatile athlete committed in December after his grades were in order, but he did not sign with USC in February.

He visited Tennessee unofficially last weekend and he’s taken an official visit to Marshall.

The dynamic Thompson won state titles the past two seasons, helping Ben Lippin interrupt Hammond’s SCISA dynasty as a junior and then leading Dutch Fork to another championship last season.

As a junior he had 1,819 yards total offense, 24 TDs and three interceptions on defense. As a senior, he rushed for 1,368 yards, caught 44 passes for 630 yards and posted 38 total touchdowns, with 27 tackles, an interception and blocked a kick on defense.

He was placed at the level of former high school national player of the year Chris Leak and called one of he best high school players ever in the state.
