Linebacker Cedrick Cooper, a redshirt freshman, had to be carted off of the field early during the two-hour practice on Wednesday. He went down with a knee injury but the severity is not known at this point.

“He twisted his knee in inside (drills),” Ward said. “We’ll have to do an MRI and find out what’s wrong. Hopefully he’s just strained his knee ligaments.”

The MRI could come back as a sprain and Ward didn’t want to jump to conclusions. If it is a torn ligament that requires surgery, Cooper would likely miss the 2013 season.

Torn ACL, definitely out for Spring, and likely most or all of 2013season. Depending on the timing of the surgery and the rehabilitation process, Cooper could be back in time to contribute for a portion of the 2013 season. He will, however, be out for the Outback Bowl, spring practice, fall camp, and the start of the 2013 campaign.
