Carolina Grind 7-on-7 team tryouts

Feb. 20, 2017

Abolverdi passed along audio of that interview. Below are a few of the highlights, in addition to what was shared on Sunday morning:

“Every other school knows that I’m going to go in-state, in South Carolina, but I still talk to Alabama. I’m still considering them a little bit, but it’s just them.”
On South Carolina:

“It’s great, what they did with all the freshmen. Coach Steve Spurrier left (South Carolina) in a ditch. Coach (Will) Muschamp and his staff are building them up, so I’m looking forward to see what they do this season.”
“It’s a great relationship. Ever since they got there, (defensive line coach Lance Thompson) been building a relationship with me. It’s pretty close.”
On the decision:

“I think about it a lot. I try not to think about it, but I do think about it. It’s a pretty difficult decision, but I’ll make the right decision at the end of the day, I believe.”
“Just the school I feel more comfortable with and where I feel I can be more successful, academic-wise.”
On Clemson:

“Coach Dabo Swinney is a great coach. I had a good (relationship) with Coach (Marion) Hobby, but he went to the league, so I was happy for him. I’m building a relationship with the new defensive line coach, Todd Bates. Clemson is a great family atmosphere.”
South Carolina pushing for 4-star DT

According to an interview granted to SEC Country reporter Jesse Simonton, South Carolina is pushing hard for 4-star defensive tackle D’Andre Litaker.

“Tennesseee has been on me the most,” Litaker said. “They’re hardcore. South Carolina, too. They’ve been on me as much as Tennessee. Tennessee and South Carolina are showing me the most interest.”

Litaker, the No. 18-ranked defensive tackle in the Class of 2018, is a personal favorite for the upcoming recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot-2, 302-pound prospect from Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., visited Tennessee over the weekend for Junior Day.

Carolina Grind 7-on-7

Entering its second year of existence, the Carolina Grind 7-on-7 team is in the midst of putting together another group of teams for competition around the Southeast later this spring.

Last year’s squad included several notable 2017 recruits, including 4-star wide receiver OrTre Smith, a South Carolina signee, along with 3-star defensive back Davondre Robinson, who signed with ECU, and 2-star defensive back Kerryon Richardson, a Georgia State signee.

Though another round of tryouts will be held next month, several of the standout players from Sunday’s session at Ridge View High School are returning from last season.

The best looking player and prospect was Quavian White, a 3-star cornerback who lined up on both side of the ball on Sunday. Wisconsin, for now, is his only offer. It’s a bit odd he doesn’t have more, because White is a quick, fluid athlete who could play a couple of different positions at the next level.

The 2018 prospect from Greer (S.C.) High School is listed as the No. 90-ranked cornerback in the country. Among the 2018 players working out on Sunday, he was the second-highest rated prospect.

Three-star cornerback Steven Gilmore, who’s from South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, S.C., is No. 1. The younger brother of former South Carolina cornerback Stephon Gilmore has an offer from the Gamecocks.

However, from this perspective, White is the better of the two prospects.

Two other 2018 cornerbacks from South Pointe were working out: Justin Reese and Scott Robinson.

The top quarterbacks were two 2018s: Brayden Hawkins (Dillon, S.C.) and Cary Enos (Duncan, S.C.) and a 2019: Davis Bevelle.

Other notable prospects at Sunday’s event included 2018 DB/WR Jaydon Brunson, 2018 WR James Rhodes (Duncan, S.C.), 2020 Christian Miller (Hilton Head, S.C.), 2019 DB Kentavious Williams (Ninety Six, S.C.) and 2020 WR Antonio Barber.
