Diondre Champaigne keeps a few folks in mind whenever things get a little trying in rural Mississippi
“I think about my family all the time, my mom and my brother and sister. I think about them when I get down or something like that,” Champaigne recently told SEC Country. “That’s who I’m doing it for. I’m doing it for them. I can’t give up on them. If I give up on myself and I give up on them.”
The former 3-star wide receiver from Fort Dorchester High School enrolled at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Miss. earlier this summer, about seven months after he committed to South Carolina.
“It’s been great,” he said of the JUCO experience. “They’ve been showing me love. They’ve been teaching me good keys to playing the game and doing what I’ve got to do.”
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound prospect, who’s roommates with South Carolina commitment Javon Kinlaw, is on track to graduate from Jones County in December of 2017.
They “chat all the time” about life at South Carolina.
“I just want to play in front of 80,000 people making touchdowns,” Champaigne said.
Through three games, Champaigne is fourth on the team with 4 catches for 30 yards. He’s one of four Bobcats pass catchers with a touchdown reception.
Jones County, which enters play Thursday night as the No. 6 team in the NJCAA rankings, has out-scored its opponents 116-34.
In-state athlete checks out USCGreer (S.C.) High School 2018 CB/RB Quavian White was joined by his father for South Carolina’s game against ECU last weekend.
“I enjoyed the game. I loved being around all the recruits. (Had) good conversations with coach (Travaris Robinson) and Bobby Bentley,” White said. “My dad enjoyed it also, talking to Jamyest Williams’ dad, they talked the whole game. And I think this would be a good atmosphere for me in the future, if they will have me.”
White will visit Clemson, N.C. State and Wisconsin in each of the first three weekends of October. He’s eyeing trips to ECU, Old Dominion, Virginia, Duke and Georgia Southern later this season.

- Just days after Aaron Sterling’s de-commitment from Alabama, the 3-star defensive lineman from Tucker (Ga.) High School has reportedly zeroed in on two of his official visit destinations.
- Sterling, the No. 18 strong-side defensive end in the class of 2017, is also expected to take a look at Tennessee.
- Jacoby Pinckney, who was offered by South Carolina earlier this summer, will visit for the Tennessee game next month. The 2019 wide receiver is from Dorman High School in Roebuck, S.C.
