He is transferring and will be a walk-on. Welcome aboard young man, you look great in Garnet and Black! Work hard and you can't be denied. CB Elijah Rodgers 6'1" 169lbs

I like the size, don't know much else about the kid or why things did not work out at Indiana, but our coaches definitely know DB's.  Welcome aboard.

This has been in the works for a couple of months or so. Rodgers, out of Blacksburg High, was a participant of the 2017 Shriner's Bowl and a 3-star CB, committed to Indiana for the 2018 cycle. At the time, he also held offers from BYU, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Purdue, and East Carolina, among others.

He was an early-enroller and participated in the Hoosier's 2018 spring camp, but then due to homesickness chose to leave and return to the state to be closer to family. He initially was thought to choose to enroll at Coastal Carolina, but ended up enrolling at Gardner-Webb for the 2018 season, where he played mostly on special teams.

Rodgers was getting interest from both Notre Dame and Tennessee, that involved getting a scholarship, but hadn't heard from either for a while. Tennessee for their part had a change in staff where the coach that was recruiting Rodgers there was replaced, and the new coach wasn't responding as often, if at all. Rodgers reported that even if he chose to go to a scholarship program now, the chance of him getting a waiver would be slim, and that would effectively be like sitting out two years in a row for him, despite the playing time at Gardner-Webb, so he'd rather walk-on, be able to play immediately, and have a chance to earn a scholarship going forward.

Congrats and welcome to the Gamecocks, Elijah! Hopefully you're able to provide depth at a position that can use it!
