Defensive lineman Dexter Wideman won't be heading far from home for prep school after all.

Wideman, a South Carolina Class of 2014 signee from Saluda High, posted on his Facebook page early Saturday morning that he would be attending Camden Military in the fall.

"I will be leaving for school Sunday. Will be going to prep school at Camden military for 4 months," Wideman wrote. "Then in January one of my dreams will come true... Playing for South Carolina GameCocks.. God please be with me."

He was not able to qualify academically for South Carolina out of Saluda. His high school coach recently said Wideman would enroll at Fork Union Prep in Virginia.

Camden Military is located in Camden, SC, about 80 miles from Saluda.

Wideman (6-4, 275) was a four-star prospect, a Shrine Bowl selection and Under Armour All-American. He originally committed to Florida State but flipped to the Gamecocks on signing day.

As a senior had 71 tackles (10.5 for loss), five sackes, 11 quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three pass breakups, two blocked kicks. He was recruited at USC by G.A. Mangus and Deke Adams.

That's what prep schools are, Shep. That's why kids still have their full eligibility when they come to us from a prep school as opposed to JUCO. They go to prep schools renowned for teaching study skills, etc....and can retake some courses to shore up their academics, reading comprehension, grammar, mathematics, etc. Fork Union, Hargrave, Oak Hill, etc are High Schools with top academics....never thought of Camden Military as such, though, but the name of the game is getting that bad boy in a garnet uniform asap! Remember, we're in the NCAA Plantation System! It's all about da MONEY!!!
