Charlotte OL Eric Douglas taking more time with recruitment
June 14, 2015
Charlotte offensive lineman Eric Douglas II attended South Carolina’s camp Saturday and picked up his first offer from the Gamecocks. Douglas was blown away by the offer and prompted speculation by some close to him and in the media that he would commit soon to USC.
A Sunday afternoon offer from Clemson changed all that.
Douglas, a Class of 2017 prospect from Mallard Creek High, attended Clemson’s camp Sunday morning. He had also been to Clemson for a junior day earlier in the year. The Tigers finally called with his second offer Sunday afternoon, and now Douglas plans to let things play out a little while before making a decision.
“They are my top two favorite schools,” Douglas said. “I will have to make more visits before I commit because whenever I do, I won’t decommit. South Carolina is No. 1, but Clemson is a close second.”
Eric Douglas Sr. was a standout offensive lineman at SC State, and he thought his son was on the fast track to a Gamecocks commitment. But that was before the Clemson offer came in. The younger Douglas just wants to take a little more time with the process and can foresee a commitment around August.
“I’m just enjoying the recruiting process right now,” Douglas II said. “South Carolina, I liked the facilities, the people are very friendly. And Coach Spurrier from his mouth saying he wanted me to play for him is an honor. Coach Elliott, I had a good time working with him. I’m going to let the recruitment process go on. I’m going to enjoy the process right now and be a leader at Mallard Creek.”
While at Clemson’s camp Sunday morning, Douglas talked with recruiter Dan Pearman and offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell.
“They said they liked my skill set,” Douglas said. “The facilities were great and the coaches were great and when I went for junior day the campus looked awesome.”
Douglas said he’s also drawing interest from Georgia, Tennessee, Florida State, Florida, Penn State and Virginia Tech.
Douglas added that he and his 2017 teammate, good friend and fellow offensive tackle Travaris “TJ” Moore do want to attend the same school. Moore also was offered by USC Saturday, but he said Sunday that he likes Michigan the most right now.
