It was a good start to the NBA Draft process for Chris Silva as his team won the Portsmouth Invitational on Saturday evening.
The two-time All-SEC South Carolina forward played in three games in the college senior showcase and showed off his ability to impact the game in many ways. He combined to score 23 points with 19 rebounds, eight blocks, two assists and two steals.
Game 1: 8 points (3-of-7), 6 rebounds, 3 blocks Game 2: 11 points (4-of-8), 5 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 stealsGame 3: 4 points (1-of-2), 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block
Prior to going up to Virginia to play in the event, Silva said it would be an opportunity to impress the NBA scouts that would be on hand.
Every time I have an opportunity to showcase myself in front of scouts it’s big. I have to come ready physically and mentally to do what I have to do,” Silva said. “My personal motivation is my family back home and knowing I came from Gabon to here and to accomplish this dream it’s right in front of my nose. I have to take it.”

Silva will now prepare for NBA workouts and awaits news on whether he will be invited to the NBA Combine from May 14-19 in Chicago.

Unfortunately, Chris didn't get the greatest of opportunity to showcase his full skillset.  He was playing on a team which had some pretty big scorers: Chris Clemons (Campbell University), who is the third all-time leading scorer in D-1 history; Garison Matthews (Lipscomb), the Atlantic Sun player of the year; Jarrell Brantley (College of Charleston), who was a prolific scorer at CofC; and C.J Massinburg (Buffalo), who was the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year.

I watched a number of the games, and Chris quite simply didn't get a chance to shoot very often.  It reminded me a great deal of NBA all-star games - pretty much whoever has the ball off of the inbound or the rebound takes the ball to the other end of the court and shoots.  Not much in the way of true "team" play, but a good chance to get exposure to NBA scouts.

Overall, I think Chris did a nice job, given the hand he was dealt (the team he was playing on).  In the championship game, for instance, Chris has 5 rebounds in 6 minutes of play late in the 1st half.  Hopefully, Chris did enough to get invited to work out with some NBA teams in the near future.
