South Carolina extended an offer in November to one of the region’s top track stars. Class of 2016 3 star running back  Amir Rasul
6'0" 200lbs (Miami, Fla./Coral Gables) has won national track events dating back to his pre-teen days and now that talent is showing on the football field.

Rasul, who has set various records for 100m and 200m sprints in his age group, holds a handful of high-profile offers. Addition to the Gamecocks, he holds offers from Miami, N.C. State, USF and others.

“South Carolina is a school I’m very big on,” Rasul said. “I haven’t been up there yet but I’m trying to get up there as soon as track season ends. Coach Brown seems like a really good man.”

Rasul is so high on the Gamecocks, he’s ready to call them his early leader. It’s still fairly early in the process for him, but South Carolina is a school that he’s kept his eye on for a while.

Former South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore is Rasul’s favorite player. He was sad to see Lattimore’s career come to an end, but he’s held the Gamecocks in high regard since he first saw one of USC’s all-time best play.

“It’s really early,” Rasul said when asked about leaders. “Football season has just ended and I’m expecting more offers to come in. South Carolina is my top school right now though. They’re number one.”

Florida was one school that Rasul mentioned he was interested in, but if the Gators don’t come calling, he’s not going to lose a lot of sleep. The same could be said for Florida State.

“If a Florida offer comes in, it’s cool. If it doesn’t, I won’t be upset about it,” Rasul said. “With Florida State, they’ve been talking to me some and sending me a lot of mail. There hasn’t been anything real serious though. If they’re not serious, I won’t be serious about them.”

Visits will be hard to make for Rasul in the spring due to track season. A quick search on YouTube brings up several track videos dating back to Junior Nationals in 2009.

The track season will likely keep him from seeing any junior days at colleges for football, but Rasul has a school he wants to visit sooner rather than later.

“I want to get up to South Carolina as soon as possible,” Rasul said. “The minute track season ends, I want to be on a plane going to South Carolina.”

South Carolina has currently offered eight running backs in the 2016 class. Two of them have already committed to other schools.
